The Old School House Gallery is the brainchild of Sandra and Robert Godfrey,
who have lovingly restored this historic building from a neglected
office-space to a vibrant and colourful artistic exhibition hall.
The quality of the restoration is a tribute to their vision.

The Gallery is a unique cooperative venture that gives local artists and
artisans the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work in the authentic
environment of the historic gold-rush town of Beechworth, Victoria

History of the Gallery Building....

The Old School House Gallery is housed in the beautifully restored 1863 Common School in Loch Street, one of
Beechworth's many notable historic buildings. Celebrating its 147th anniversary in 2010, the Common School No. 36, also
known as the Beechworth Academy, was the town's first school. The first Australian-born Governor-General, Sir Isaac Isaacs, taught there from 1872 to 1874, and for a hundred years of its history the building housed the office and press of the Ovens & Murray Advertiser.
